OPTIFAST Program Details
OPTIFAST is designed to help overweight patients improve health and lower weight-related health risks. North Star offers a variety of treatment options using OPTIFAST products and services under the supervision of physicians.
PATIENT PROFILE:
The OPTIFAST program is designed for individuals 50 pounds or more overweight. These individuals are at greater risk for coronary artery disease and heart attacks, stroke, gall bladder disease, arthritis, breast cancer, cervical cancer, osteoporosis and depression. Over 50 percent of patients entering the OPTIFAST program have weight related problems such as hypertension, diabetes, joint and back problems, elevated cholesterol and triglycerides and sleep apnea.
The OPTIFAST program is for patients 16 years of age or older.
THE OPTIFAST MEDICALLY MANAGED PROGRAM:
The OPTIFAST program is provided by physicians trained in obesity management.
The OPTIFAST medically managed program includes:
- A comprehensive consultation and examination.
- On-going medical monitoring is provided by your physician.
- Individual guidance and support in nutrition, behavior and exercise is provided by North Star and is tailored to your individual needs.

OPTIFAST Products
The OPTIFAST program consists of nutritional shakes with optional nutritional bars. OPTIFAST products come in two forms: powder packets and Ready-To-Drink formulas. Individual powder packets are mixed with cold water or diet, decaffeinated beverages and come in 3 flavors; chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. Ready-To-Drink boxes are premixed (juice boxes) and are ready to consume. Ready-To-Drink comes in chocolate, french vanilla, and strawberry.
The OPTIFAST program requires patients to consume 5 shakes a day. Nutritional bars are available in chocolate, peanut butter and honey nut and are optional.
OPTIFAST is an 800 calorie-a-day weight reduction program that provides 100 percent of the Recommended Daily Allowance of vitamins and minerals (when all 5 shakes are consumed daily).
OPTIFAST products also include chicken soup packets that can be substituted for an OPTIFAST shake up to twice a day. Chicken soup is prepared by mixing with hot water.
Benefiber is available to add fiber to your diet. It is mixed with water and is clear, tasteless and has no smell or odor.
